POST-CONGRESS OUTPUT

Description

The indigenous reservation of Puracé is located northeast of the Puracé municipality, Cauca. Previously this area was part of the Puracé National Natural Park, but the Parks Unit handed over this territory to the indigenous reserve for its conservation and sustainable use. It is a territory endorsed by the indigenous community belonging to the Coconuco ethnic group, descendants of the Pubenences, who populated the Pubenza valley and the northern part of the volcano.

The Puracé volcano, which in the Quechua language means “mountain of fire”, is located 39 km from the city of Popayán. It has an approximate altitude of 4,650 meters above sea level. The main rivers of Colombia are born there: Magdalena, Cauca, Patía and Caquetá.
